ChatGPT starts selling ads in Brazil and Mexico

According to PPC Land, the ChatGPT ads test reached Brazil and Mexico on 17 August 2026, the first two Portuguese and Spanish markets. That brings the total to nine: the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Japan, South Korea, Mexico and Brazil. Buying runs through three routes: OpenAI's own Ads Solutions team, technology partners, and a self-serve manager. The partners named include Criteo, Kargo, Adobe, Pacvue, StackAdapt, AdRoll and LiveRamp.

The numbers in circulation are United States performance: an overall click-through rate of 0.68%, 1% in the top quartile and 1.57% among the best-performing brands, with CPM between US$25 and US$60. The report is explicit about what does not exist: no performance data for Brazil or Mexico, and no confirmation that context targeting behaves the same in Portuguese and Spanish. Ads are shown to logged-in adult users on the free and mid tiers.

None of this is revenue for a publisher. It is a new search surface, paid per click, installed exactly where the commercial intent that reaches your site through traditional search already lives. The advertiser buying there is buying the same person, one step earlier.

Our reading: when purchase intent moves into a chat box, a publisher does not merely lose visits, it loses the half of the visit that was worth more. The remaining answer is to raise what each surviving pageview earns, and that is done with space that does not exist on the page today, not by competing harder for space that is already taken.
